As well as being a technical theatre society, the SoD is also a dining society that hosts formal dinners during the Cambridge Michaelmas and Lent Terms. The dress code is black tie, although variations are welcome. Dinners tend to be hosted in one of the Cambridge Colleges, but other venues do pop up from time to time. The venue is usually encoded in a puzzle such as a crossword and distributed via email to all members of the SoD.
At the end of a dinner it is traditional for a number of toasts to be made with the final toast typically being proposed by the youngest member present, if they are so willing. The order of the toasts is as follows:
